Head Start/Early Head Start - Site Lead

Location: South Los Angeles

What We're Looking For:

We are seeking a Site Lead, under the direction of the Site Supervisor will assist in the direct supervision and oversight of the operations of the Head Start center, assuring regulatory and legal compliance with federal, state and local regulations; communicating with parents and community; supervision of teaching staff, monitoring of documentation and services. Is responsible to ensure that the site is in compliance with all aspects of the Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing, and State of California Preschool program regulations on a daily basis.


The ideal candidate will support and coordinate program services in the following areas:

  1. Assisting designated Site Supervisor in the supervision and management of assigned center.
  2. Responsible for the supervision of all Lead Teachers, Teacher Assistants, Substitutes and aides assigned to site. Responsible for the coordination of schedules and ensures all classrooms are properly staffed daily.
  3. Responsible for all health and safety procedures related to community care licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.
  4. Responsible for the implementation of the program curriculum in each classroom, daily routine, room arrangement and developmentally appropriate activities.
  5. Implementation of education services and guides teaching staff in child development best practices.
  6. Ensures health, safety, and emergency preparedness at the designated center.
  7. Addresses all Parent and community complaints and conducts monthly Parent Meeting.
  8. Ensures the implementation of the child assessment 3 times a year. Ensure teachings staff uses a Portfolio process to collect child observations.
  9. Ensures that all families have received 2 Home Visits and 2 Parent Conferences a year.
  10. Implementation of the CLASS strategies used by teachers.
  11. Ensures the implementation of the program transition process for children entering the program and transitioning into kindergarten.
  12. Responsible for the implementation of the Non-federal Share in-class activities, volunteers in the classroom and home-school activities.
  13. Individualize lesson plans to include individual objectives, activities, and goals for each child and family.
  14. Responsible for the implementation and completion of action plans related to DRDP-R results, ECERS, and CLASS.
  15. All other duties as assigned.

Recordkeeping & Fiscal

  1. Assist in collecting all documentation for the center, data and files and ensures utmost confidentiality of information. Includes employees on-site file requirement, time sheets, sign-in sheets, children's files, supply inventory, and in-kind.
  2. Supervision of staff attendance including the verification of accuracy.
  3. Assist in the identification, purchase and annual inventory of center supplies and equipment in accordance with the budget.

Supervision and Training

  1. Supervision of assigned staff at the center.
  2. Work with designated site supervisor to support individual teachers to develop training plans for obtaining higher education in Early Childhood Education.
  3. Identify staff training needs and work with ECE Coordinator to conduct trainings.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES YOU SHOULD POSSESS:

  • A minimum of two (2) years direct experience working with young children, ages 2-5 years old, within a preschool setting, in addition to a cultural, ethical, and diverse community. Minimum of two (2) years supervising adults in a preschool setting.
  • Bachelor's Degree with a major in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field. Must have Child Development Program Site Supervisor Permit. Successfully completes and maintains Basic First Aid and CPR certification.

Special Requirements

  • Must possess a valid California driver's license, have use of a motor vehicle and provide evidence of automobile liability insurance.
  • Must meet State health requirements, including TB clearance. Fingerprints must be on file with the Justice Department.
