Position: Sr. Business/Clinical Intelligence Analyst

JOB SUMMARY:

  • The Sr. Business/Clinical Intelligence Analyst is responsible for the acquisition, assessment, modeling, enrichment, and preparation of data assets to support multiple purposes across the organization. The analyst will work with subject matter experts to build the research, analysis and delivery methods in a business context for senior managers and executives. The role will also work with technical system owners to develop required extract, transform and load (ETL) models. In partnership with business and clinical leaders, he or she will "mine" data regularly to identify patterns, trends, and key performance indicators iteratively
  • The Sr. Business/Clinical Intelligence Analyst will bring a solid foundation of computer applications, modeling, statistics and math to solving business intelligence and analytical challenges as represented by various business and clinical leaders. He or she will support data governance so that the organization is empowered to make data-driven decisions utilizing agreed upon sources of truth and common data definitions. The analyst will be able to explain data lineage and associated meta data to business and clinical staff to ensure optimum value of existing data assets. The analyst will also build dashboards and visual presentations of the data story.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5 years of experience in data warehousing and business intelligence concepts, including statistical analysis and presentation (e.g., charts, graphs, median, rank, Pareto analysis, etc).
  • 3-5 years of experience in healthcare business, clinical, or technology operations
  • Coursework or degree in epidemiology, public health and/or mathematical analysis
  • Expert MS Excel skills including demonstrable knowledge of advanced functionality.
  • Demonstrable expert SQL skills
  • Demonstrable mathematic expertise (numerical optimization, stochastic modeling, matrix operations, etc)
  • Understanding of "machine learning" and predictive analytics
  • Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau, Cognos, Qlik, Diver, etc.
  • Proven track record for comprehensive, systematic troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work as a team player in a fast-paced, critical service delivery environment
  • Must be a self-starter that can work independently, understand expectations, and demonstrate insatiable curiosity about what the data is telling the organization.
  • Ability to ask and anticipate the next question in discussion with business and clinical workers
  • Strong communication skills to work with multiple disciplines and bridge the gaps between the need for actionable information and technical tools to provide it
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's Degree or greater in Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Humanities, Public Health, Nursing, Epidemiology or similar or demonstrated equivalent professional experience
  • Master's Degree is preferred
REQUIRED LICENSURES/CERTIFICATION:
  • Must successfully complete and maintain LA City Fire Card certification at the time of hire or within the first 30 days of employment
  • Certification or equivalent in MS SQL, Tableau, Cognos, SAS, or other similar data analysis platform.
MUST HAVES:
  • All required licensures, certifications, mandatory education; along with annual occupational health screenings must be completed prior to the expiration date or by the end of the month in which they are due. Reference the Educational Requirements: Must Haves, Mandatory and Unit Based policy (in electronic policy management system) for the specific requirements for this position.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (These are the essential job functions for this position. The essential functions of this job include, but may not be limited to those listed in this job description.   • Develop dashboards and reports showing key performance indicators, measures, trends and standard benchmarks
  • Support self-service queries by end users with adequate protection of database assets, data integrity, and consistent with master data dictionary
  • Extract, transform and load (ETL) data into repository; integrate disparate data sources into unified data platform
  • Apply algorithms to support data surveillance processes and generate proactive alerts when data thresholds are met
  • Support or provide DBA functions in collaboration with IT technical resources
  • Write SQL queries on demand and publish standardized views using multiple presentation or visualization tools
  • Build and publish "apps" or "views' using enterprise analytics systems
  • Facilitate data exchange with business partners by providing data export and import functions.
  • Utilize excellent customer service skills to help end users understand how to use data assets to develop better business and clinical practices
  • Interface with users, managers, directors, and executives anticipating their operational questions and needs; mentor others to provide greater data understanding
  • Provide statistical, numerical and graphical analysis of data trends to help internal customers recognize performance improvement opportunities and measures of operational success
  • Discover data trends and patterns and notify stakeholders with predictive analytical information
  • Maintain regular data cleansing and validation processes to ensure accuracy, dependability, and consistency with organizational data governance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve data errors and present data management opportunities to stakeholders of source systems and processes
  • Perform special duties, tasks, or projects as required

  • Demonstrates knowledge of and follows safety practices. Understands the importance of safety, including patient safety in the work place. Maintains a safe environment for self and others.
  • Actively participates in the Patient Safety Program, including event reporting. Identifies sentinel events/near misses and responds per defined organization processes. Participates in education activities and process implementation. Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer and appropriately acknowledges patients, customers and visitors.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Primarily an inside building/office environment, well lighted and ventilated, which may consist of multiple treatment and/or work sites.

Requires ability to communicate clearly (in English) verbally and in writing for effective communication with other staff members, physicians, vendors, community members, patients and patient families, employees and applicants of all socio-economic levels from a diverse cultural and ethnic population.
  • Subject to many interruptions from multiple calls and inquiries and potentially emotional situations involving accidents, injuries, illness and/or death.
  • Handles emergency/crisis situations in accordance with Hospital policy.
  • Answers phones or pages; may carry a beeper/pager, and/or use a two-way radio.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Potential risk of exposure to hazards from chemicals (toxic and non-toxic), flammable materials, gas or electrical or radiant energy or equipment with/without moving parts.
