Senior HR Compliance Manager
Full-Time | Remote or Hybrid (California) | $140,000-150,000 annually

Position Summary
LaserAway is seeking a strategic and solutions-focused Senior Manager, HR Compliance to help strengthen our commitment to a fair, accountable, and legally sound workplace. In this high-impact role, you'll lead initiatives that promote compliance, reduce legal risk, and ensure consistent resolution of employee concerns across the organization.
This role is ideal for a collaborative HR leader who thrives on navigating complex employee relations issues, interpreting employment law, and building programs that align people practices with business goals. You'll partner closely with leaders at every level to provide expert guidance, foster a culture of integrity, and proactively manage risk in a fast-paced, multi-state environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Employee Relations and Investigations
- Independently conduct complex and sensitive workplace investigations with little supervision, including determining appropriate investigation strategies, leading witness interviews and conducting credibility analyses, reviewing documents, drafting investigation reports, and determining findings and recommendations for appropriate resolution.
- Work directly with internal legal counsel providing both case management and subject matter expertise to ensure fair outcomes, timely completion, and thorough documentation
- Review and assess deviations from policies, procedures, and regulations to ensure fairness and consistent application across the board.
- Interpret and improve policies and procedures, incorporating knowledge of state and federal employment laws.
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and HR Business Partners on employee relations matters, including coaching, performance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary actions.
- Support employee relations initiatives and programs while analyzing trends and data, identifying gaps, and delivering actionable solutions that enhance employee experience and enhance organizational effectiveness to help the company have a more proactive position on risk prevention.
Compliance
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR compliance programs, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Own and evolve labor and employment compliance policies and programs, including wage and hour regulations, discrimination and harassment, hiring and background checks, 1099/W2 classification laws, and more.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments or HR practices to identify and mitigate compliance risks.
- Provide expert guidance to leaders and HR Business Partners on compliance-related issues, including wage and hour laws, benefits administration, Workers' Compensation, and workplace safety.
- Develop internal controls to ensure we are aligned with regulatory requirements for employees across all jurisdictions and proactively create strategies to mitigate risks.
- Develop training programs for business and operational teams across the company to meet compliance standards.
- Draft, revise, and maintain HR policies and procedures and employee handbooks to ensure alignment with current laws and company values.
- Prepare regular reports and documentation for internal stakeholders, executive management, and regulatory authorities as required.
- Stay updated on any changes to applicable laws and regulations to ensure timely updates to internal policies, training, and procedures.
- Show up as a role model to foster an environment where the company complies with all laws, demonstrates ethical behavior, and is focused on best practices and risk mitigation that is balanced between employee and business interests.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to address complex compliance issues and manage regulatory investigations.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
What We're Looking For:
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree or HR certification (e.g. SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR ).
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in HR compliance or a related field - specifically California, and a preference of at least 3 years in a managerial role.
- In-depth knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal requirements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven track record of successfully managing HR compliance programs and initiatives.
- Must be organized, able to multitask and prioritize, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Must appreciate working independently with minimal supervision, while still meeting all goals and deadlines.
- Strong project management and cross-functional team collaboration/stakeholder management experience.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- A resilient professional who thrives in new challenges and navigating ambiguous spaces and who has an unwavering commitment to achieving results.
- Proficiency in HRIS and other relevant software applications.
- Experience with California Wage and Hour regulations a plus.
- Retail experience a plus
