SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Assay Development Research Scientist 1 position is suited for candidates experienced in developing high-sensitivity, scalable tests, particularly with Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS). Responsibilities include designing and developing automated, high-throughput genetic tests from concept to commercial launch, within a collaborative environment emphasizing cross-functional projects. The role involves assessing and integrating new technologies, troubleshooting, and maintaining assays.

Key Job Elements
  • Develop high-sensitivity tests for NGS.
  • Develop, test, and evaluate NGS technologies.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory preparation and Illumina sequencing instruments.
  • Design and analyze experiments independently.
  • Optimize genetic assays and communicate results clearly.
  • Conduct quality control of algorithms for panels.
  • Ensure attention to detail and organization.
  • Participate in designing and launching new tests.
  • Collaborate across teams to develop and maintain assays.
Qualifications

Knowledge / Experience:

  • PhD or Masters in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or related field; >5 years for Masters, >3 years for PhD preferred.
  • Experience with DNA/RNA library prep, Target amplification, NGS.
  • Knowledge of human genetics, NGS, genotyping.
  • Experience with CLIA/CAP labs and genetic testing companies preferred.
  • Basic bioinformatics understanding.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, SOPs, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to correlate NGS data with lab procedures.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and project management.
