The client is seeking an experienced Associate Principal (Structural Engineering) to join its Los Angeles headquarters. This senior leadership role is designed for a highly accomplished structural engineer with extensive technical expertise, proven leadership ability, and strong business development skills.
The Associate Principal will lead large, complex projects across multiple market sectors, drive client engagement, and mentor teams of engineers and BIM designers. This is a key opportunity to influence strategic growth, expand client relationships, and shape the next generation of engineering leaders.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage large-scale structural engineering projects from concept through completion.
Oversee project teams (engineers and BIM designers), ensuring high-quality project execution.
Provide technical leadership in Type I construction (steel and concrete structures).
Deliver seismic evaluation and retrofit design expertise (ASCE 41 experience a plus).
Collaborate with architects, contractors, and consultants on innovative and cost-effective solutions.
Develop and maintain strong client relationships and actively support business development.
Mentor and guide future leaders within the organization.
Must-Have Qualifications:
12+ years of building design experience.
Masters degree in Structural Engineering from a U.S. university.
SE License required.
Strong technical expertise in Type I construction (steel and concrete).
Proven track record leading teams of engineers and BIM designers.
Experience with seismic evaluation and retrofit design; ASCE 41 familiarity preferred.
Experience with DSA and HCAI/OSHPD projects is a plus.
Recognized leadership in the industry with established client relationships.
Strong business acumen with ability to secure and maintain client accounts.
Decisive leadership and mentoring skills.

Specialized expertise in a technical area or specific market sector.
Experience with high-rise, commercial, aviation, healthcare, or institutional projects.
