Controller – JohnHart Real Estate (Glendale, CA)

JohnHart Real Estate, with its expansive network of 15 offices and over 550 dedicated agents, stands at the forefront of the real estate sector. Our mission is to streamline every transaction and elevate the experience for clients, agents, and staff alike. As we continue to scale, we are seeking a Controller to lead and optimize the financial operations across our family of companies.

Your Role: As Controller, you will oversee the accounting function for JohnHart Real Estate. You'll serve as the financial backbone of our organization—ensuring timely reporting, clean books, and strategic financial management across all verticals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Financial Oversight: Direct all accounting operations including general ledger, journal entries, month-end and year-end close, and intercompany consolidations.
• Leadership & Team Management: Supervise and mentor the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and alignment with company goals.
• Reporting: Produce timely and accurate financial statements and management reports, while ensuring compliance with internal standards and regulatory requirements.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with leadership to build budgets, monitor variances, and forecast cash flow across multiple business units.
• Internal Controls: Strengthen systems and controls to protect assets, improve efficiency, and support company growth.
• Audit & Tax Coordination: Act as the point of contact for audits, external accountants, and tax advisors.
• Process Improvement: Evaluate current accounting processes and implement systems to streamline operations and support scalability.

Qualities and Qualifications:

• Deep understanding of GAAP and accounting best practices.
• Hands-on experience with QuickBooks and strong proficiency in Excel.
• Prior experience managing financials for multiple entities or within a holding company structure.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through.
• Ability to communicate financial concepts clearly to leadership and non-financial stakeholders.
• Capable of operating with discretion, integrity, and a proactive problem-solving mindset.
• Proven track record in building or rebuilding accounting departments and systems.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
• Background in real estate, property management, escrow, lending, or related industries strongly preferred.

This is a full-time, in-house position at our headquarters in Glendale. Remote work is not available.
