Overview

Director of AI/ML Engineering at Collectors. Lead the AI/ML team and coordinate with Operations, Product, Analytics, and other Engineering teams to drive the long-term technical vision for AI and Machine Learning across internal systems and customer-facing products.

Our AI/ML team is building tools to enhance a digital and physical Collectors ecosystem. We work on cutting-edge projects including LLMs, agentic flows, computer vision, advanced predictive algorithms, and high-throughput/low-latency APIs. This role reports to the VP of Data and AI/ML and may involve remote or hybrid work with onsite expectations discussed during recruiting.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the VP of Data and senior leaders to shape and drive the long-term technical vision for AI/ML at Collectors, spanning internal systems and customer-facing products.
  • Manage and scale the AI/ML team, building a world-class organization focused on innovation, productivity, and employee retention.
  • Work with other development leaders to create comprehensive, cross-product solutions.
  • Partner with Product, Operations, Analytics, and other cross-functional teams to identify high-impact technology opportunities that accelerate product and user experience.
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and development support to team members.
  • Drive workflow development and improve processes for scale.
  • Oversee all phases of the ML lifecycle: data acquisition, feature engineering, model training, deployment, and ongoing improvement.
  • Stay abreast of AI/ML research and translate insights into practical solutions.

Who You Are

  • 3+ years as a senior engineering manager or Director of engineering, managing a medium to large engineering team or a small to medium AI/ML team in a high-growth environment.
  • 5+ years of Data Science, Software Engineering, and/or Machine Learning experience building complex projects.
  • Ability to translate strategy into execution; ability to define objectives and implement supporting processes and systems.
  • Forward-thinking with experience in productionizing LLMs, Agentic Flows, or Computer Vision.
  • Experience coaching and supporting managers and engineers with empathy and candor across teams.
  • Proficient with Python for AI/ML and with deployment frameworks and processes for ML algorithms.
  • Strong collaborative engineering experience with Agile methodologies, code reviews, linting, CI, and cloud-based deployments.
  • Willingness to learn, take feedback, and continuously improve.
  • Excellent communication skills.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $195,000 - $275,000. Actual compensation varies by location, level, experience, and skill set. This role may be eligible for bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation; please ask your recruiter for details.
