Responsibilities
- HR Strategy & Compliance: Lead all HR functions including operations, policy management, benefits, compliance, and legal coordination.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state labor laws.
- Supervise a small HR team and guide daily functions like performance evaluations, employee relations, and leave administration.
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Oversee full-cycle recruiting and onboarding.
- Partner with department leaders to develop hiring strategies.
- Maintain and adjust compensation structure in line with organizational goals.
- Employee Relations & Performance: Serve as the primary point of contact for HR-related questions and concerns.
- Advise leadership on employee relations, performance management, and discipline procedures.
- Manage the employee review process and career development planning.
- Labor Relations: Collaborate on union contract negotiations and grievance resolution.
- Act as the lead liaison for arbitration matters.
- Training & Development: Design and implement internal training and employee orientation programs.
- Evaluate learning needs and measure the effectiveness of development initiatives.
- Campus Operations & Safety: Support safety initiatives and emergency protocols in coordination with facilities and campus operations teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; HR certification preferred (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP/SCP).
- 7–10 years of progressive HR leadership experience.
- 2–5 years working in a unionized environment.
- Strong knowledge of HR compliance and employment law.
- Experience in nonprofit, academic, or arts-related settings preferred.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Mac environment).
