URBAN TXT: Teens Exploring Technology is a nationally recognized and growing nonprofit organization focused on inspiring young men of color to become confident leaders who use technology as a tool to improve marginalized communities. We are dedicated to ending the school-to-prison pipeline. Position Summary

TXT Labs Manager of New Business & Emerging Tech is responsible for bringing in new revenue for URBAN TXT and cultivating relationships with tech businesses in the Los Angeles area to create job placement opportunities for TXT interns. The TXT Labs Manager has excellent people skills, is a team player, and is highly organized. The manager maintains professionalism, diplomacy, sensitivity, and tact while representing TXT. This candidate is passionate about improving the lives of youth in marginalized communities through technology and leadership. The individual will oversee a growing TXT Labs. The position is a hybrid role of three days in person.

Responsibilities

  1. Identifies and prioritizes new business revenue opportunities and develops a strategy for closing new business accounts.
  2. Researches, prepares for, and attends critical conferences, meetings, and industry events.
  3. Develops new partnerships with mid-large size businesses who can become TXT paid clients.
  4. Identifies new market trends in tech development and STEM market.
  5. Partners with subject matter experts and Client Development Directors on pitch material, proposals, meeting agendas, and follow-up.
  6. Develops and nurtures networks to build and maintain a pipeline of prospects and revenue.
  7. Develops and organizes new business development initiatives.
  8. Anticipates new opportunities to create future streams of income for TXT.
  9. Consistently achieves or exceeds business development targets.
  10. Brings in at least $250,000 in revenue.
  11. Manages a pipeline and adjusts daily activity to meet forecasted target numbers.
  12. Researches potential clients, such as schools, non-profits, and midsize businesses, who would be a good fit for online training or tech development programs.
  13. Discovers opportunities to cross-sell TXT Labs services (Web/App development, Train the Trainer Models, etc.) and generate additional revenue.
  14. Works with senior leadership and cross-functional teams (i.e., Technology department) to gather and document tech requirements that will support new clients. Provides business and thought leadership alongside the CEO to increase revenue of TXT Labs.
  15. Requires knowledge of problem formulation and solutions; hypothesis framing; business strategies.
  16. Responsible for collaboratively delivering best operational capabilities to exceed business objectives and maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  17. Contributes to the development and execution of online content and digital branding/creative assets, including the creation of landing pages and other assets as needed.
  18. Serves as the main contact for community organizations and schools regarding the TXT Labs and the Hustle N Code Platform programming.
  19. Utilizes spreadsheets to track and report activities and pipeline.
  20. Other tasks as assigned.

Key Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in finance, sales, marketing, communications, or similar area required. Advanced degree beneficial, but not required.
  2. 2-3 years' experience in business development preferred, specifically with cultivating new professional relationships.
  3. 2-3 years of relevant sales experience is also sufficient.
  4. Self-starter with ability to initiate prospecting activities, calls, and face-to-face meetings.
  5. Able to work in a tech startup environment.
  6. Must be okay with ambiguity.
  7. Ability to work under pressure during peak seasons of activity, and work quickly but effectively by prioritizing tasks.

We serve young men of color between the 7th and 11th grade who are from low-income communities. Since 2009, we've used the concept of developing strong teams as a way for our young men to learn about collaboration, ideation, and long-lasting life skills. In small teams, our youths learn the process of taking an idea from concept to market.
