Employment Law General Counsel

$250,000.00/yr - $275,000.00/yr

Title: Employment LawGeneral Counsel

Hours: 8-5 pm

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active membership in good standing of the CA bar required.
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in employment law, with at least 3 years in a national law firm preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations (e.g., ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, NLRA). Multi-jurisdictional employment expertise preferred.
  • Experience providing counsel directly to management and HR teams.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and multi-tasking skills; able to manage complex issues across multiple locations.
  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; proactive in providing counsel to business partners.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to make clear, reasoned recommendations while identifying key stakeholders for communication.
  • Willingness to expand expertise beyond labor and employment law to address routine contentious matters and broader litigation issues.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-house legal counsel on a wide range of employment-related matters, including terminations, counseling decisions, wage and hour compliance, workers' compensation, unemployment claims, employee benefits, immigration, employment agreements, leave and accommodation requests, grievances, arbitrations, and employment litigation.
  • Conduct and/or manage internal investigations; advise and coach managers on compliance with employment laws and HR policies.
  • Resolve complex employee relations issues effectively, managing relationships and costs with outside counsel when necessary.
  • Respond to HR complaints, administrative charges, and employment lawsuits, strategically minimizing risk and business disruption.
  • Monitor and interpret employment laws across multiple states, providing recommendations and guidance to leadership regarding regulatory changes and policy implications.
  • Update and maintain the Employee Handbook and HR policies, advising HR and executives on emerging risks, policy decisions, and mitigation strategies.
  • Perform other legal and HR-related duties as assigned.
