The Opportunity

Silvus is seeking a Director of Legal who will report to the Vice President of Operations. The successful candidate will ensure Silvus operates within the law, provide counsel on legal issues, protect the organization, and facilitate business development, while managing external risk factors.

This position is based at Silvus Technologies' headquarters in West Los Angeles, CA, and follows a hybrid schedule with a minimum of 3 days onsite per week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays).

Role and Responsibilities

  • Develop and lead the product and commercial legal strategy for Silvus, balancing opportunity and risk and ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements in both commercial and DoD sectors.
  • Oversee all legal matters pertaining to the organization, focusing on product, commercial, and regulatory matters, including coordination of outside counsel where applicable.
  • Lead and develop the Silvus legal team and coordinate cross-functionally to support growing legal needs.
  • Oversee Facilities Clearance and other security clearance related matters.
  • Develop plans for managing legal matters, including activities performed in-house or through third-party relationships to minimize risk.
  • Draft, negotiate, review, and interpret agreements across commercial activities, including advertising sales, data processing, consumer and business product terms, online platform terms, and partner/vendor agreements.
  • Plan and implement internal policies and procedures related to legal, compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal laws and regulations, including DoD FAR and DFARs where applicable.
  • Provide legal expertise across the business, structuring transactions, initiatives, and partnerships with practical business judgment.
  • Direct supervision of personnel on the legal team.
  • May require travel for meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school with top academic credentials.
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience as an attorney at a private law firm and/or in-house counsel.
  • Current and active member of the California State Bar Association with authorization to practice.
  • Ability to draft and negotiate complex strategic partnership service agreements, sales agreements, licenses, and development agreements.
  • Strong understanding of technology and law, especially relating to communications and/or defense products.
  • Strong business acumen and high professional ethics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of government acquisition regulations including the FAR and DFARs.
  • Organized and comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment; focused on achieving business objectives with a compliant and ethical approach.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen due to clients under U.S. government contracts.
  • All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check.

  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.

Compensation

The pay range is not a guarantee and will vary based on experience and qualifications.

CA Pay Range

$190,000 - $250,000 USD

Note: As a U.S. Federal Contractor, all candidates must be a U.S. Person (permanent resident or citizen). Stricter U.S. Citizen requirements may apply for certain Engineering or R&D roles. This generally does not apply to international positions. All employment is contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check.
