Position Overview

We invite applications for the position of Senior Inland Marine Claims Specialist. This integral role requires working in one of our collaborative office environments, which include Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), or San Antonio, to handle our most sophisticated inland marine claims including Builder's Risk, Contractor's Equipment, and Motor Truck Cargo.

Your Impact:

  • Independently adjudicate highly complex claims with significant departmental impact, under the broad direction of management.
  • Conduct thorough information gathering and analysis to resolve undefined issues.
  • Monitor the quality of work performed by third-party adjusters managing claims for US programs.
  • Report on claims trends and developments to senior management and underwriters.
  • Promptly and thoroughly investigate claims by interviewing all interested parties.
  • Manage cases in litigation efficiently towards favorable financial outcomes.
  • Set accurate claim reserves while considering the impact of policy wording.
  • Identify and coordinate necessary resources to resolve cases.
  • Prepare documentation and reports for file maintenance.
  • Craft innovative solutions that drive financial outcomes.
  • Negotiate complex settlement packages and ensure timely payment processing.
  • Maintain effective communication through telephone and written correspondence.
  • Demonstrate a passion for successful claims management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of seven years of experience in adjudicating commercial Inland Marine claims exceeding $100,000.
  • A bachelor's degree or alternative qualifications through professional insurance designations and relevant experience.
  • Possession or the ability to obtain a New York General Adjusting License or real-time reciprocal licenses for Texas and California within three months of employment.
  • Familiarity with specialty programs and partnerships with TPAs or MGAs is preferred.
  • A strong understanding of insurance company operations and profitability impacts linked to this role.
  • Capable of independent decision-making on significant matters.
  • A detail-oriented approach to information gathering and problem-solving.
  • A results-driven attitude focused on overcoming obstacles and achieving goals.
  • Strong communication skills to foster lasting relationships.
  • Adaptability, resourcefulness, and the capability to thrive in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent negotiation skills essential for managing claims effectively.
  • Knowledge of claims reserving methods and accuracy assessments.

  • Ability to communicate the financial implications of claims management to stakeholders, including executives.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is based on geographic location and candidate experience:

  • Chicago: $148,100 - $177,700
  • Los Angeles and New York City: $161,800 - $194,200
