Senior Director of AI & Machine Learning / Los Angeles - Hybrid / RAG role at Motion Recruitment. The Senior Director will build and grow a top-tier AI team, establish engineering best practices, and stay ahead of emerging trends to drive innovation and business impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead a team responsible for the full AI product lifecycle, from experimentation to production
• Design scalable, resilient infrastructure to support AI development and deployment
• Apply advanced AI techniques (LLMs, RAG, agentic systems) to deliver impactful business solutions
• Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to turn requirements into AI-enabled products
• Mentor engineers while embedding best practices in performance, scalability, and efficiency

Tech Breakdown

• 70% AI/ML Engineering & Infrastructure (LLMs, RAG, agentic AI, Python, ML frameworks)
• 30% Leadership & Strategy (roadmap ownership, team leadership, cross-functional collaboration)

Required Skills & Experience

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, with strong emphasis on AI/ML systems
• Proven ability to recruit, develop, and scale high-performing technical teams
• Hands-on background with Generative AI: LLMs, fine-tuning, and RAG pipelines
• Proficiency in Python and modern ML ecosystems such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace, and LangChain
• Track record of deploying AI solutions to production at enterprise scale
• Exposure to agentic AI platforms and frameworks
• Strong grasp of systems architecture, scalability, and cost optimization strategies
• Product-oriented mindset with experience defining roadmaps and aligning priorities with business outcomes
