Blue Chip Talent is seeking a Project Engineer (Build Engineer) position in Torrance, CA, to support and oversee build activities for advanced Electric Power Electronics Conversion products (inverters, on-board chargers, DC-DC converters). This role will manage prototype and production builds, ensuring quality, consistency, and collaboration between engineers, technicians, and stakeholders.


Responsibilities

Build Management & Oversight

  • Lead daily build huddles and provide progress updates to stakeholders.
  • Monitor work-in-progress, material availability, and production challenges; escalate as needed.
  • Review and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Assess custom build configurations for operational and interface compatibility.

Collaboration & Training

  • Partner with Design Release Engineers (DREs) to create prototype assembly instructions and build requirements for POC, DV, PV, and other phases.
  • Train technicians on assembly procedures, equipment operation, and troubleshooting best practices.

Issue Tracking & Problem Solving

  • Document build issues in JIRA and resolve them through 8D problem-solving methods.
  • Collaborate with DREs and prototype teams to ensure timely resolution.

Prototype & Fixture Development

  • Design and build assembly aid fixtures using CATIA (including drawings and assemblies).
  • Conduct torque-to-fail studies to establish torque values and update assembly/route sheets.

PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) Tracking

  • Manage PCBA receipt, serial number assignments, travelers, inspections, and testing.
  • Coordinate outsourced processes (e.g., conformal coating with TPM).
  • Circuit troubleshooting and inspection per IPC 610 standards.
  • Rework activities (cut trace, solder, jumper wires per DCN).
  • Familiarity with PCBA fabrication processes (bare board to population).

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant hands-on engineering/build experience.
  • Knowledge of supply chain/manufacturing processes (MRP, KanBan, JIT)
  • Experience with prototype or high-volume production builds.
  • Skilled in creating work instructions and production processes.
  • Understanding of mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Proficiency with CATIA V6 (part design, assembly design, drafting).
