Overview

Purpose Statement/Position Summary: The Phlebotomist, under direct supervision of the Research Supervisor, performs duties approved by California business code 1269, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies. Responsible for drawing and collecting blood samples from patients, verifies records and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. May perform client service activities, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and ordering/managing supplies-functions with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications/Work Experience: 2+ years of clinical laboratory experience

  • Experience in medical terminology and technical aspects of pathology and laboratory medicine.

  • Maintain clear and accurate records of all blood draws and sample processing.

  • Demonstrate strong time management skills to meet participant and shipping schedules.

  • Communicate effectively within a collaborative team environment.

  • Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with young adult research participants.

  • Perform blood draws, process samples, and prepare shipments according to study protocols.

  • Adapt to flexible scheduling needs, including occasional weekend availability.

  • Work in person as needed, based on participant appointments.

  • Bonus: Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable to support diverse participant populations.

  • Effective interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills with all levels and ages of patients and of hospital staff.

  • Ability to communicate clearly between technical, user and management staff.

  • Written and oral communication skills in English including high school reading comprehension.

  • Accuracy, attention to detail and initiative to complete tasks routinely on time.

  • Ability to assist in problem solving and know when problem needs to be brought to a higher level.

Education/Licensure/Certification: High School graduate or GED.

Valid and current California certification for Certified Phlebotomy Technician.

Pay Scale Information

$30.30-$30.30

The pay scale listed for this position is generally for candidates that meet the specified qualifications and requirements listed on this specific job description. Additional pay may be determined for those candidates that exceed these specified qualifications and requirements.
