Overview

We are seeking a Drainage Project Manager with experience on fast-paced transportation infrastructure projects. This role is a key member of project leadership teams, responsible for proactively managing budget, schedule, technical requirements, and contractual obligations; provides high-level technical tasks while reviewing design elements such as specifications, calculations, reports, and plans. The position supports HNTB's delivery performance—quality work delivered on time and on budget, with client satisfaction through coordination with internal and external partners and cross-discipline teams to address design-related issues.

Responsibilities

  • Develop project scope and fee quotation; assist in technical proposals and contracts in accordance with HNTB's Sophisticated Contracting Approach (SCA).
  • Serve as the primary client liaison and manage the project team to deliver scope, schedule, and budgets to completion and client satisfaction; assist with client scoping and contract negotiations.
  • Perform technical tasks including analysis, reports, design, specifications, and production for assigned projects.
  • Implement the firm's project delivery plan using HNTB's Sophisticated Delivery Approach (SDA); lead development and execution of the project management plan; supervise and mentor the project team toward objectives.
  • Coordinate with managers on project staffing, including recruitment, development, retention, and succession planning; support performance and compensation reviews.
  • Collaborate with Client Service Leaders and pursuit teams to assist with business development, client relationships, and pursuit efforts for strategic projects; prepare proposal materials and lead proposal development and presentations.
  • May be responsible for recruitment, hiring, development, retention, and succession planning for project staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant experience
  • 2 years of task management or Deputy PM experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • 15+ years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification, and ability to obtain PE in multiple states
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with construction methods and optimization of designs
  • Familiarity with permitting at federal, state, and local levels
  • California Professional Engineer (PE) license

What You'll Bring

  • Drainage, Stormwater, Water Quality, and Surface Water Design
  • Lead project teams in hydrologic and hydraulic models, drainage calculations, plans and specifications
  • Coordination with other disciplines for fully integrated design
  • Develop cost estimates and identify risks for job pursuits with project managers and contracting partners
  • Develop scopes, fees, and workplans to execute projects on aggressive schedules
  • Assign tasks and direct design to ensure quality, on-time deliverables
  • Act as a subject matter expert with senior review of designs, proposals, fee estimates, and scopes of work
  • Proficient with standard industry software (MicroStation, InRoads Drainage, GEOPAK Drainage, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, StormCAD, HEC-RAS 1D & 2D, SWMM, PondPack, Culvert Master, Flow Master, HydroCAD, etc.)
  • Knowledge of stormwater permitting requirements of clients, local, state, and federal agencies
