Overview

Director, Data Enablement & Analytics - IS Clinical Research at Keck Medicine of USC. Full-time, 8-hour days, exempt, non-union. The role provides day-to-day oversight of Data Enablement and Analytics, ensuring data governance, accessibility, understandability, and actionability across the organization. The incumbent champions enterprise-wide data governance, drives data literacy, and empowers teams to make data-informed decisions.

The Director will collaborate with the PMO to set priorities for the Data Enablement and Analytics department, help define expectations, timelines, and deliverables, and lead a team that supports Tableau and Power BI, develops reports and dashboards for enterprise use, and trains departments on self-service analytics. The role also leads data stewardship, owns the data catalog and data quality initiatives, and fosters cross-unit collaboration (clinical, finance, IT, etc.). Strong communication skills are essential, including the ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Departmental Leadership: Define and execute a data enablement roadmap aligned with business priorities and digital transformation goals. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, translating data strategy into business impact. Lead a team of data governance analysts, data literacy specialists, and enablement professionals. Monitor and report on key metrics related to data adoption, literacy, and governance maturity.
  • Data Literacy & Enablement: Design and launch a data literacy program to elevate data fluency across the organization. Partner with HR to integrate data education into onboarding, training, and leadership development. Create toolkits, dashboards, and self-service resources to democratize access to data. Foster a culture of curiosity, experimentation, and responsible data use.
  • Data Governance: Oversee data quality, metadata management, data lineage, and regulatory compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA). Support cross-functional alignment and accountability. Collaborate with IT, Legal, Security, and business units to ensure consistent data stewardship and risk mitigation. Provide strategic oversight for a data governance framework and related policies and procedures.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of data professionals. Set goals, priorities, and performance expectations; foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented culture. Provide coaching and professional development; allocate resources effectively; champion cross-functional collaboration; conduct performance reviews and ensure accountability. Advocate for the team's needs at the executive level and secure visibility for data enablement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in computer science, healthcare, business, or related field.
  • 8–10 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
  • 5 years of experience supervising personnel.
  • 5 years of experience building new analytics and data products; experience with the System Development Lifecycle and software development methodologies.
  • Proven ability to lead technical and functional teams; track record of building and scaling data literacy initiatives.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, planning, and evaluation skills; strong oral and written communication; effective stakeholder management.
  • Leadership and guidance capabilities.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in computer science, healthcare, or related field.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) — if not available on hire, must be obtained within 30 days and renewed as required (LA City only).

Compensation & Additional Information

The annual base salary range is $145,600.00 – $240,240.00. USC considers factors such as scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, equity, and market conditions when extending offers.
