Project Manager - Java J2EE

Location: Long Beach, CA

Employment: Full Time (Permanent) Position

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent required from an accredited institution. Will also consider three years of progressive experience in the specialty in lieu of every year of education.
  • At least 7 years of experience with IT.
  • At least 7 years of hands on software development and maintenance experience in IT industry, 3 or more years related experience in project management.
  • Experience managing IT projects in J2EE technologies for new development, maintenance and production support.
  • Hands on experience in customer IT application development and maintenance.
  • Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and implement multiple, large and complex technical projects.
  • Ability to manage portfolio of projects.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, while using discretion in decision making.
  • Experience in working in Agile and Iterative Development methodologies
  • Experience and desire to work in a Global delivery environment
  • Good Knowledge of CMMi Processes.
  • Ability to co-ordinate with customer team on a day to day basis.
  • Ability to build and nurture relationship with various customer stakeholders.
  • Ability to lead and mentor a team of 10 to 20 developers in achieving project goals.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Drive projects through all SDLC phases, from initial definition and estimation, through to production delivery and support.
  • Deliver projects on time, within budget, with quality results that meet customer expectations.
  • Follow consistent best practices for project management, and drive process enhancements in collaboration with the team and other project managers in IT.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure projects are planned and prioritized to meet business needs.
  • Develop detailed project schedules, project estimates, resource plans, status reports, tracking and reporting progress.
  • Proactively manage scope, issues and risks to ensure project success. Follow change control procedures effectively.
  • Knowledge of architectural frameworks and design principals, provide inputs to the technical architecture, development team and conduct design reviews.
  • Support the team in developing optimized high quality deliverables, perform reviews in order to meet the defined quality SLAs.
  • Mange client relationships at the portfolio/project level by engaging them regularly and be the ‘Single Point of Contact' for the client.
  • Perform periodic project reviews, milestone reviews and relationship review with customer stakeholders.
  • Reviewing staffing/expansion requirements for the current projects and planning/ training team members for projects.
  • Mentoring team members and identifying training needs to build domain/ technical competency.
  • Monitoring performance of team members and conducting performance reviews.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for expanding footprint of services.
  • Support on pre-sales campaign activities and events.
