Location: Glendale, CA

Contract Position

Pay: $55-$70/Hour

Under general supervision, can perform all the duties of an Associate Project Controls Planner, and, in addition, will perform the following general duties and planning/scheduling:

  • Assist with the development of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS)
  • Produce and quality check routine and ad hoc reporting to support project and functional management
  • Assist in determining and analyzing mitigations for variances to plan
  • Understands basic design drawings
  • Assist in the development of project strategies, risk mitigations, and recovery/acceleration plans
  • Collaborate with internal and external organizations including design studios, project and construction management, vendors, and contractors
  • Understand project scoping documents, deliverables, and plans
  • Assist with the preparation of project scoping documents, basis of estimate/schedule, strategy, and risk documents
  • Ensure scope and current strategies are appropriately represented in the project schedule
  • Ensure schedules are compliant with appropriate practices, procedures, and project/functional requirements
  • Develop the Earned Value (EV) system and measure performance against EV
  • Assist with the preparation of contract documents for bid packages for Project Controls including specifications, milestones, and budgets
Planning / Scheduling
  • Develop additional activities and logic sequences to expand project life cycle schedules
  • Develop design and production schedules
  • Assist with the planning of project phasing
  • Integrate and monitor supplier and subcontractor schedules
  • Integrate activities across subproject schedules, studios, and project phases
  • Develop project codes, WBS codes, and resources for project activities
  • Plan and analyze project resource requirements including staffing, progress, and commodity installation over time
  • Develop design tracking reports for drawings, materials, animation, and media
  • Assist with the implementation of the integrated input matrix
  • Conduct planning and coordination meetings
  • Understand project workflows, design inputs and outputs, and project sequencing relationships
Project Complexity

Working in a manufacturing setting for production of proprietary Show items

Business Acumen

Courses of study in engineering, architecture, production, planning, or construction or equivalent working experience in these fields. Knowledge of Critical Path Method (CPM) scheduling, earned value, change management or cost control and estimating. Other general business acumen skills include: technical communications, presentation, understanding of basic business drivers and basic market conditions, and general project management principles for control.

Risk

Able to identify significant risks, assess basic impacts, and mitigation plans

Communication/Influence

Frequent communication, reporting, and interactions with project and studio team members including vendors and outside consultants to establish Project Controls tools, collaboratively develop deliverables (plans, estimates, forecasts, etc), and status versus the current plan/forecast. Requires meeting facilitation and presentation to develop Project Controls deliverables that are thoroughly vetted and supported by the team. At the staff level, these communications will generally not involve complex topics or complex risks. Variances to plan/budget and trends will be communicated to the leadership team for assessment and review of actions.

Influence generally limited to facilitating awareness of plans, budget, performance, and variances so that management can determine corrective actions. May influence commercial and schedule decisions through basic analysis, change management, and supporting risk assessments.

Education

4 year undergraduate degree, preferably in a technical field such as engineering, architecture, construction management, or equivalent work experience in planning

Specialized Skills
  • Understanding of Work Breakdown Structure principles and applications
  • Quality checking
  • Meeting leadership, facilitation, basic conflict resolution, and alignment
  • Good communication, collaboration, technical writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of design, manufacturing, and/or construction
  • Understands the relationship between scope, cost, and schedule and implications of impact on to the other
  • Understanding of baseline plans and change management
  • Understanding of earned value and related analysis
  • Thorough understanding of CPM scheduling including logic relationships and constraints, resource planning and leveling, reporting, and float and variance analysis
  • Highly proficient with Primavera Project Planner (enterprise or web version)
  • Minimum two years in engineering/manufacturing or four years major theatrical production experience
  • Themed entertainment experience preferred
  • Minimum two years CPM scheduling experience
  • Able to speak in front of large groups
