Position Details
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator/RCS Clerk/RCS Senior Secretary, the incumbent performs a wide variety of typing and general clerical work of a routine nature in support of the Recreation and Community Services DepartmentNote, part-time positions are considered at-will employment.
Examples of Essential Functions
The incumbent performs a wide variety of general clerical work including typing and/or data entry, collect and record fees, and maintains accurate cash records. Receives the public and answers calls while displaying courteous and professional behavior; observes and enforces all City safety rules and regulations including policies; provides customer service requiring understanding of City policies and procedures; directs people to appropriate offices; answers routine questions; explains routine procedures, processes, or departmental activities; distributes and explains forms, such as applications or facility permits; obtains routine factual information to create or update files; provides routine assistance. Compiles routine reports by extracting and/or tabulating information from a variety of sources, such as files, correspondence, meeting notes, logs, previous reports, and/or oral instruction. Types a variety of documents in draft and final form, such as correspondence, standard forms, charts, and reports using word processing equipment; types from written, recorded, or printed sources and/or oral instructions; proofreads materials for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation; will sort and distribute mail. Provides assistance processing warrant demands, registration for Recreational classes and sports. Provides temporary and vacation relief in similar occupational fields as necessary. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent required; college coursework relating to recreational programs highly desirable. Some direct experience in leadership, volunteer work, or recreation activities is highly desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Keep simple records and prepare reports and notices; establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; team oriented; maintain confidential data and information; the ability to speak Spanish is highly desirable. Ability to operate a personal computer using common business applications, e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and PowerPoint.

SELECTION PROCESS
Following a review of all applicants, the best-qualified candidates will be scheduled for further assessment procedures. Those applicants who successfully complete the evaluation process will be further considered. An eligibility list will be compiled in accordance with the City's Promotional/Open Recruitment Policy from which the final selection will be made.
Initial appointment is contingent upon satisfactory completion of a City paid physical examination, drug screening, background check and verification of U.S. Citizenship or right to work in the United States. This position is subject to and dependent on the continued availability of funds and the manpower needs of the City of Bell Gardens.
