Veteran Security and Safety Specialist
The Veteran Security and Safety Specialist (VSSS) ensures a safe, secure, supportive, and therapeutic environment while also providing mentorship and guidance to veterans to promote positive engagement, well-being, and safety. As part of a 24/7 team, responsibilities include patrolling the campus and conducting security rounds, monitoring activity, and responding to incidents. This role emphasizes verbal de-escalation, conflict resolution, and community engagement as first responses, with escalation to on-duty or on-call supportive service or clinical staff, supervisory staff, law enforcement, and other emergency services as needed and required. This is a no-touch position; staff are not expected to physically intervene in incidents. Working under the supervision of the Veteran Services Coordinator (VSC), the VSSS supports daily residential living and clinical services, promotes client independence, and contributes to U.S.VETS' mission of ending and preventing veteran homelessness.
